Exhibit 1Design: This is a photo of my great-grandfather Alpheus Harvey on his graduation day from the University of Utah in the late 1920s. To make this photo as realistic as possible, I researched buildings of the U of U to learn that this was taken in front of the Park Building, researched the materials used to build the Park Building, interviewed my grandpa to learn what Alpheus and his son Stanley would have looked like, and found photos of period clothing and cars.
Process: I used different tools (quick selection tool, pen tool, clipping mask, quick mask) to make selections of the clothing items, shoes, park building, sky, cars, foliages, lawn, windows and road. I used photos and textures of various items and overlaid them into the different selections by varying modes (color, multiply, overlay) and opacities to blend the images with the original photo. This captured subtle changes in texture and color not attainable by brush coloration. Some items selections, such as the sky and hat, did not require outside images, but were colored using color overlays from the effects menu. The windows were colored with the same blue of the sky.
